Adoption. I’m obsessed and apparently passionate and full of information.
We received a DM on Twitter asking if we could share what we know to help someone with promoting adoption in their local area.
I don’t consider myself an expert but we have some specific experience, insight and tools to share. And now we have been doing it for a while, we lose the beginners mind and forget what others don’t know.
So here is a summary of the call, I wish I had recorded it as I didn’t expect the reaction I received from another passionate person keen to share adoption.
WHERE do we start? Or HOW do we start?
There are actually a number of places replicating Bitcoin Beach using their White Paper B.U.B.B.L.E.S. This might be more than needed but people are using it and I recommend reading it to provide structured ideas from people who have made it work.
Start a regular meetup in your area and try to find a business that would like the regular group and will accept bitcoin at least for your event.
When helping merchants, it’s great to have answers for peoples “No.” Common complaint, price volatility.
No wallet is currently perfect. And like any good craftsman, finding, selecting, using the right tool for the job is a skill in itself.
The Bitcoin Beach Wallet by Galoy is a great starting place as it provides a solution for the first complaint of price volatility. But there are risks with Stable Sats.
Feature rich
Good UI / UX
Low KYC requirements (Know Your Customer)
Backed up by Galoy (3rd party custody)
Stable Sats to hold a dollar value (read the site for risks)
Simple merchant features built in
eg. https://pay.bbw.sv/njelsalvador
Cons, 3rd party custody
Next I like to use Wallet of Satoshi because it’s so fast to first transaction. This is the wallet I use to impress people with how “frictionLESS” Bitcoin can be. I have had a lot of “WOW” moments with this wallet.
Fast download
Currently no KYC
Receive payments on first open of the app
Feature rich support
Cons, no stable sats (could also be a pro ;-), no custom username (coming soon?), 3rd party custody.
After that, once people are ok with the idea of using Bitcoin as a payment rail, I move on to deeper topics, like self custody wallets and hardware.
Breez wallet with a PoS system and more
Phoenix wallet for good features
Muun for BTC and LN
Education. Now people are invested in protecting their investment they start asking deeper questions. It’s fun to answer these the first few times but after a while it becomes a poor use of our time. Where can we send them to receive a consistent education and good experience? My First Bitcoin or Mi Premier Bitcoin.
They have released their English and Spanish Diploma for free. We have just started a 10 week series where we do this live online so any body can listen to the course at any time.
These are the basics we use when onboarding and listening for objections so we can see if we have a solution. Or we then go and hunt for one.
There are more tools in our kit, such as;
Tiankii for more complex Point of Sale systems and hopefully WooComm and Shopify checkouts very soon. They provide a wallet agnostic solution.
Also tips about using ATM’s where Chivo and Athena sometimes offer on-chain instant cash transactions when RBF (Replace by Fee) is turned off with their wallet.
Little things like these help to solve objections and build a brighter future for the adoption of the Bitcoin protocol and Lightning payments network.
If you are interested in adoption and have insights or tools that can remove objections, we are keen to hear and share.
We hope you enjoyed this brain dump. The idea is to be as onboard, objection solving, shortest time, best experience possible.
Go and share.
Peace and Bitcoin
